Ways in which Fellowes made Matthew’s death irrelevant to the plot (AKA Stovens you can go, I don’t give a fuck):
- The scene between Isobel and Branson. Her words make it clear that now is Tom the one who is the middle class/worker class man who shouldn’t be changed by Downton.
- Mary’s child is a boy. So the inheritance is safe and Mary can rule the freaking house until he comes of age.
- Robert accepts change. Also, Robert accepts Matthew. That’s the kiss of death.
